REVIEW:

This box set is the 6th and final one (?) of the series and presents dress rehearsals tracks from concerts held by the Stones during the 1989-2016 period. The first 3 discs come from Philadelphia Veteran Stadium August 28th, while the next 2 come from the following day (the day Steel Wheels was released), too bad nothing surfaced from the 27th nor from the 30th of August. These were the rehearsals done before tour start so on both days there are complete concert set of songs in soundboard quality; the only thing missing here being the audience, otherwise they are good sounding performances. Recordings from the 28th appeared on Philadelphia Dress Rehearsals (SODD 097-99) 3 cds. on Dead Man Cumming (Eternal Rec. RSCDX 509/624 051-2) 5 discs set and on The Steel Wheels Rehearsals vol. 2 (no label) 3 cds; the next day instead can be located on Better Than The Real Rebirth (Vague Rec.001-2), Philadelphia Dress Rehearsal Special 2 (SODD 100-01) 2 cds,   Dead Man Cumming (Eternal Rec. RSCDX 509/624 051-2) 5 discs set, then on Unplugged (Pignose 027) 2 cdr, The Steel Wheels Rehearsals 2 cd (no label) and The Early Steel Wheels Outtakes (Voodoo Sounds) 2 cds.

Disc Six is devoted to the 1994 Miami show that was broadcasted live, they can be found on Hoodoo U Voodoo(Goldplate GP 1305DVD1/2 CD 1/2) 2 cd & 1 DVD, on Miami Rehearsals 1994 (DAC 154) 2 cd and on Miami Rehearsals (RTR 036) 3cd & 3LP.

Disc Seven has 3 different sources: the first 7 tracks come from Washington July 30th, 1994 that have only come out on Tokyo 1995 (Continental Drift 007-8), unfortunately many fading in or out, then 1 song from the London Brixton Academy July 19th, 1995 (officially released in May 2016) and the final 9 coming from Toronto   September 15th, 1997, among which there is the slowest version of Like A Rolling Stone the band ever played live; 4 songs from the same rehearsals open Disc Eight, these can be found on Closer Than Close (Empress Valley 070408, Rattlesnake 027, Sister Morphine 19, Vague Rec. 003), The Babylon Rehearsals (no lablel) and Bridges to Babylon Tour 97/98 (WLR 2138) 13 cd box. Disc Eight continues with 5 songs from Chicago, Sept.20th 1997 this time in audience quality, like the 3 songs plus the Introduction from the following day. The former ones can be located on Rest of Gold (VGP 299), Opening Night Rehearsals (Phoenix 02) and the latter just on Rest of Gold (VGP 299), unfortunately all in mono.

These are just some of the songs played, since have been recorded just as many songs as on Philadelphia 89 for the first 2 days and also tracks from 22 and 23 September surfaced, but are not included here; this disc ends with 4 songs from Oakland, Jan.22th 1999 again in audience quality which can be found on While the Wind Blows Over Toronto (Dandelion 091-92). Disc Nine is entirely devoted to Stuttgart May 27th, 1999 with 15 songs featured in excellent audience quality and not in soudboard quality as stated in the booklet, which come from Shattered in Stuttgart (VGP 223) 3 cd and The Rocking Wrinkles (Weizmann Rec. 123-2). Another rehearsal track missing is Can t You Hear Me Knocking from Knock on Wood (Rattlesnake 149-50) Amsterdam 19-5-99. Disc Ten opens with 7 tracks from Toronto Aug. 16th, 2002 which have so far only be available on bootleg DVD-R like Palais Royale (Exile EXF 001) and Toronto Palais Royale 2002 (RS 01-02), let s just remember that five incomplete songs from these rehearsals are featured on Four Flicks DVD set. They are followed by 6 songs from Budokan Hall, Tokyo March 10th, 2003 in audience quality possibly taken from Live at Budokan Special Edition 3 cd (Exile EXM 015A/B) or Live at the Budokan Hall (Silverdiscs 001 A/B) and 6 from Tokyo Dome March 22nd, 2006 in soundboard quality, one more track from this date opens Disc Eleven, these are to be found on A Bigger Band In Saitama (DAC 050), Front Row (Golden Circle 55000), Absolutely Stunning (dig down deep 001) and A Bigger Bang World Tour (WLR 2178) 13 cd box. Then come 2 songs from Milan July 8th, 2006, which can be found together with Slipping Away on A Bigger Bang DVD and also on Forever Banging (Pignose 140), A Bigger Bang Soundboard 2005-7 Vol. 2 (WLR 2057) and Nasty Bang (Pignose 138). Audience quality for the next 10 songs from Vilvoorde, Belgium May 28th and 29th 2007,with 5 songs from that venue that continue on Disc Twelve, these are on Please Please Please (Rattlesnake 218-9) and Prisoners Of Love (Rattlesnake 212-3), funnily the Sly & Family Stone track Thank You us here called with its slang subtitle (For Letting Me Be Myself Again, was the meaning). This disc ending with 7 songs from Werchter July 4th, 2007 that are on The Unbelievable Rolling Stones (Rattlesnake 210-11). On Disc Thirteen we have 6 songs from Tokyo Dome March 4th, 2014 and 8 from the same venue 2 days later, both on The Sweetest Forbidden Fruit from 14 On Fire Tour (EVSD 677-690) and on Tokyo 2014 Rehearsals and More (RTR 037) 5 LP & 1 DVD, where unfortunately the only thing missing is Mick Taylor s guitar; You Got Me Rocking from Abu Dabi has been overlooked. Disc Fourteen opens with 4 songs from Perth October 29th, 2014, then 4 from the same location but from November 1st which originally were released on Black Swan & The Windsurfer (Empress Valley 782-789) copied on Swans, Sails and Ozzie Allies (Eat a Peach 30-33) and 3 from Santiago, Chile February 3rd 2016that can be found on El Libertador (Xavel SMS 060-1) 4 disc & 1 DVD set. The final disc present instead newly found outtakes taken from vinyl, stemming from the Undercover sessions in Paris that happened from Nov. 11th through Dec. 17th, 1982, three being the tracks first released on Birds Vault Volume Three (OBR 930399 without the bonus tracks that were just issued on cd (OBR 93 CD 039) as well as on Birds Vault Vol.3 Plus Extra Tracks (Goldplate GP 1901 CD 1/2). So what to say about this release? It is not bad although it could have hosted many more tracks even going back to the past there are many rehearsals available (Ed Sullivan shows, Marquee 71) but even on some that are included like Washington 94 there is much more material available (2 cds); the last disc included is out of place with the theme and missing the bonus tracks that graced the cd version is kind of useless. Packaging is the same as on all other releases of this kind though, with the usual mistakes on the accompanying booklet.

The best toys are the ones that are both educational and multi-purposeful.
