REVIEW:

This new set from Mayflower concludes, for the time being, the label s commitment to present the best sounding and relevant Stones studio outtakes according to each album sessions offering the usual batch of alternates and different versions and it starts with a promo instrumental version of Dance followed by extended versions of Summer Romance and Send It To Me the latter over 6 minutes long; a shorter edit of Let Me Go comes up before the short promo version of She s So Cold and Down In The Hole   come just before another extended mix of Emotional Rescue; then we get a bunch of well known outtakes: Let s Go Steady, We Had It All, I Think I m Going Mad and an extended version of No Use I Crying. Disc Two opens with Dance Pt.2 better known as If I Was A Dancer followed by both versions of Claudine with the electric one that is actually 10 seconds shorter than the officially released version on the 2011 2 cds of   Some Girls, then slightly different versions of No Use In Crying the last one with the organ mixed upfront; Lonely At The Top is a well known outtake, Dancing Girls is one of the best outtakes from this period and is followed by Gangster s Moll and another well known instrumental Munich Hilton. Sweet Home Chicago and What s The Matter have been on many underground albums too; strange the inclusion of High School Girl which was recorded for the Undercover 1982 sessions. Disc Three opens with more Dance and Summer Romance   versions  followed by the inexplicable duplication of the 2 versions of We Had It All and then a version of Where The Boys Go which is probably the worst sounding track of the collection because it is a rough version, at least at its beginning, but a great one as well with furious guitars and a great piano by Stu. The disc ends with Jah Is Not Dead a great 10 minutes long reggae track and It Won t be Long which is a different song than the Bigger Bang one. The great thing about this release is its sound quality which is constantly high, many times compilations of this kind present tracks that have quite different level as far as sound output is concerned due to their sources, not this time. Packaging follows this label s tradition of presenting artworks that well bring to mind the album s original cover while at the same time offering great looking alternatives.
