REVIEW:

What we have here are colorized versions that have so far just existed only in monochrome (black & white). This has been possible using full scale the latest technology to achieve natural colorization; according to the label’s description it is so complete that you may think they have been colour images from the beginning.

These vintage pictures revive indeed and it is stunning for example to watch in colour Brian Jones and Bill Wyman sing back up chorus at the A. Haynes show or Brian Jones and Mick Jagger sharing the same microphone; the colours are not excessive as in many of such attempted experiments, but discreet and totally natural. Looking at footage like the NME or TAMI Show makes you wonder why the major labels never tried this, and if some purist replies that it is not natural what is the difference with the fake stereo re-processing we were provided in the past by the official labels?

Obviously, we shall assume some original photos of these events served as template to recreate the right colours, but so far all footage seems to have been properly coloured. Anyway, one of the requirements for such treatment to be successful is that the original b&w images were in good shape, otherwise the footage you will get will be too blurred to be enjoyed. Another surprise here is the fact that all footage is now in 16:9 and that certainly increments fun when viewing such historical footage, but for certain tracks like the Charlie Is My Darling extras (Tracks 18-20) they had been popularized like that, the aspect ratio had to be changed instead for the 65 ZDF newscast that ends the DVD, however 1 more song was professionally filmed (The Last Time) from this show. So, what can we say of this release? Simply that it is a must have.

The best toys are the ones that are both educational and multi-purposeful.
