This new 3
LP box focus on the Stones It’s Only Rock’n’Roll sessions, unfortunately as in
the recent releases of this kind there are no cd that accompany the vinyl set.
On Side A we get the acetate versions of If You Can’t Rock Me and Ain’t Too
Proud To Beg, the demo version of the album’s title that features David Bowie,
an alternate take of Till The Next Goodbye and the shortened take of Time Waits
For No One. Side B is entirely dedicated to alternate versions (Luxury and
Fingerprint File) and alternate mixes (Dance Little Sister and If You Really
Want To Be To Be My Friend). More alternate mixes on Side C (If You Can’t Rock
Me, Ain’t Too Proud To Beg, It’s Only Rock’n’Roll (But I Like It) and Drift
Away) plus the soundtrack of the video promo of Till The Next Goodbye. On Side
D there are Short And Curlies alternate mix, the regular version of Through The
Lonely Nights, the edited version of Time Waits For No One and the long take of
Fingerprint File from the 8-track version. On Side E come the outtakes: Slow
Down And Stop and Living In The Heart Of Love from Munich, the Jagger collaboration
with John Lennon Too Many Cooks from the filly Finished Outtakes and 2 more
promo video soundtracks for It’s Only Rock’n’Roll (But I Like It) and Ain’t Too
Proud To Beg. Side F has a different version of Drift Away, the longer 8 track version
of Time Waits For No One, Fast Talking, Slow Walking and Scarlet recorded just
2 weeks before the album’s release, the single version. Nothing new on this
compilation of course but an attracting set nevertheless.
