REVIEW: |
This box presents
about 10 years of collecting the Stones various performances since the release
of Grrr! being a real bonanza for collectors that do finally find silver releases
of all the tracks from various gigs posted on the band’s official socials. The
first disc has Shaun Keaveny Keith Richards interview from early November 2012 supplemented
by Huey Morgan’s interview from a few days later; track 11 Doom And Gloom (Frenzy
Break Remix) is not an official release but an effort from Lady Walks, a Russian
‘lady of breaks’ while the last track is a short report of Le Trabendo gig. On
Disc Two Keith Richards Huey Morgan interview continues, followed by Ron Wood
interview. Next come the two tracks the Stones played in New York for the
victims of Hurricane Sandy in 2012, the NME Awards from 2013 with Ron Wood and Jagger
& Richards Jim Kerr interviews from i-Heart radio; the last track is a
radio promo for the 14 On Fire tour with interviews of all the Stones. Disc
Three presents a lot of soundchecks from Japan and Central and South America,
all in excellent sound; disc ends with Jagger handclapping at a Buenos Aires club
in 2016 while singing with a local band. Disc Four starts with another radio
show from i-Heart radio on the Fonda Theatre performance, where the whole Sticky
Fingers album was performed live.; here the first 3 songs come from various
locations though (Paris, Hyde Park and New York) before the 10 SF tracks, though
not in the original order, which were released at first as download album on
June 28 2015, but then in physical format in September 2017; too bad they didn’t
think of this when they toured with Mick Taylor. The last tracks are jams, the
first one in Mexico featuring Charlie Watts and the second features Jagger on
vocals and handclapping from Montevideo, Uruguay, strangely titled Gangster’s Moll,
that has nothing to do with the famous outtake. Disc Five starts with the
remaining part of the radio broadcast from i-Heart on the Zip Code tour,
followed by more soundchecks from Perth, Australia. Disc Six addresses Blue and
Lonesome with a radio show from BBC6, followed by some more soundchecks from
Nashville. Track 24 (Soundcheck mix) is not a song, but rather a print mistake.
Disc Seven is similar, with the radio show from BBC2 and the soundcheck tracks
from Chile. Disc Eight has a number of songs taken from various concerts,
mostly from 2016 South American tour ending with the 2 official singles from
Blue and Lonesome. Disc Nine starts with 10 tracks from 2016 Desert Trip in
soundboard quality, followed by some radio shows featuring Ron Wood interviewed
by Matt Everitt from BBC6, Jagger and Richards from CBS Sunday Morning and some
video promos soundtracks. On Disc Ten there are more live tracks picked from various
concerts as well as the Tokyo 2014 soundchecks, with Disc Eleven devoted to
various unusual tracks from 2012-2019 tours. The final disc has more live
tracks from the 2013-2018 tours and the special from April 2020 when they
played You Can’t Always Get What You Want from their homes, as well as some
Living in a Ghost Town remixes and edits, taken from i-Heart radio,
unfortunately with commercials. This is a nice box with many tracks unavailable
so far on silver disc,
proper editing
job would have been nice, but more is always better than less.
