REVIEW: |
This
release from 1960s records presents the Stones in concert in 1966 as
broadcasted by 2 radios, Side One from Honolulu on what was the last date of their
US Tour and that was Brian Jones final appearance on US grounds. This concert is
well known for 2 reasons, apart that it is the only complete 1966 show from
America: the first one is Charlie Watts mistake when he introduced Lady Jane as
The Last Time and the second is Jagger remarks that this would have been the band
last gig ever. Despite being recorded from AM radio this broadcast sounds
better than Sydney that was taken from a FM radio; this how has however rare
tracks on it lie Mercy Mercy, That’s How Strong My Love Is and The Spider And The
Fly, let alone Play With Fire and She Said Yeah. For some reason chronological
order is not followed here, so on Side One we have the July show and on Side
Two the February one, many years ago when you could listen to one or two tracks
before buying a vinyl album bootleggers used to put the best sounding tracks on
side One to convince potential buyers to purchase the album, these days however
I don’t think it is the case any longer, also because these albums are wrapped
in plastic sleeves, but maybe the habit has remained. This is Volume 1 of 2
with the next one coming out in the autumn, meanwhile though a 2 cd set is
already out and will be reviewed soon.
