REVIEW: |
This
release continues the Let the Airwaves Flow series from this label, jumping
from 1965 to 1969; the first tracks come from Dutch radio Veronica broadcast of
the Stones Hyde Park concert which happened 10 days after the concert, the concert
was recorded with a Sony portable recorder bit broadcasted on AM radio, so low
fidelity, but the important thing is that the songs are complete and there is
no talking over them, also these 3 songs were not part of the officially released
DVD that was based upon the Granada TV Special, nor in the 2006 or 2015 updated
versions; notably the first song is here in stereo. This concert also saw the
live debut for Street Fighting Man; as bonus a guitar duet recorded backstage featuring
Jagger; this side ends with a version of Gimme Shelter from Pop Goes the Sixties
tv show with live vocals on a prepared backing track. Side Two begins with
three songs from the Saville Theatre (now called Covent Garden) recorded in mid-December
1969, after the Altamont show. The final 3 songs come from the Detroit concert,
allegedly 40 minutes from the whole set were visually recorded by the tv crew
in front of a bewildered audience, amongst which Iggy Pop who called this the
most memorable gig he ever witnessed.
