REVIEW:
This box presents the first 7 shows from the Stones 2022 European tour, the first one they did without their former drummer Charlie Watts replaced by Wino’s Steve Jordan. The first show happened in Madrid that was released as Gracias Madrid (Goldplate GP 2201CD1/2DVD1/2BR1/2) in a luxury set that included 2 cds, 2 DVD and 2 Blu Ray discs offering the show in complete multi angle edit and closer view; on the cd there are also 4 rehearsal tracks (Jam, Criss Cross, Mother’s Little Helper and She’s A Rainbow) which are also on Backstage Jams, Soundchecks and Rehearsals (Stonyroad). On this concert, the first of the tour, the band played 3 songs as encore adding Jumping Jack Flash to the usual Gimme Shelter and Satisfaction.
Next is Munich that came out as Munich 2022 a 2 cd no label set, then as Munich Germany (Exile EXCDR SX0220605) in a 2 cdr and 1 DVD-R set; later as Sounds Like Thunder (E.Valley 1633/34) in IEM format and also as Nicht Viele Bikinis Heute Abend 3LP set (Stoned) in 270 numbered copies; however there is also Munich Germany Sixty Europe 2022 (Exile SX20220605) that featured 2 cdrs and 1 DVD-R; the version featured here is the audience one.
The stop in Liverpool has been documented on Welcome to Liverpool (E.Valley 1629/30); this recording however does not seem to be that one though, being too heavy on bass frequencies.
The concert in Milan has come out on a no label 2 cdr set and is here in very good audience. This was a particular gig for the presence of a three female back choir from the Ghosthounds and of Chantal Haynes instead of Sasha Allen.
Both Hyde Park dates have come out from E.Valley as Summer Breeze #1 (EV 1620/21) and Summer Breeze #2 (EV 1618/18) which strangely was the first one released. The first show here is documented by a nice recording that unfortunately has too much breeze blowing in the recording microphone. This concert saw Sasha Allen taking back her place and in the setlist Sympathy For The Devil moved to the encore section, probably due to the fact that it is better played in darkness; there has also been played Can’t You Hear Me Knockin’ but not with great enthusiasm. The second show instead is a copy of the Empress Valley title; this time the opening song is Get Off Of My Cloud. In the setlist are also Angie, You Got Me Rockin’ and Like A Rolling Stone “a song written for us by a guy who won the Nobel prize for literature” says Jagger referring to Dylan, so I guess we shall believe that. Amsterdam is the last concert in this box, it was released too by Empress Valley on High Time in Amsterdam (EV 1635/36) but the one here presented is not from that source, but from a worse one with lots of audience noise. As usual this box is great to have all the shows in chronological order even if it can’t be said these are the best available versions for these concerts, but this label has shown more attention to speed than on quality for its releases.
