REVIEW:

This 3 discs set from Mayflower proposes the Stones Steel Wheels sessions offering early versions of many of the songs that appeared on the final album, including some new ones, together with different mixes from which many boots have come over the last years (Monitor Mixes etc.). This is not the only difference from many other releases of these tracks, as the label has decided to group the songs together. There is not much difference musically speaking from the finished product as we all know, but for the unreleased tracks. Sound output is excellent and there is great stereo separation which is evident in songs like the opener Sad Sad Sad as well as amazing Charlie Watts drumming on tracks like Almost Hear You Sigh (versions 3 and 4, because the 1st and 2nd ones come from Keith Richards solo session and Track no.10 is a recent artificial job that mixes together Jagger vocals on the left and Richards on the right channel. Track 13 comes from the 25x5 video, as well as Hellhound On My Trail n Disc Three; Cook Cook Blues is version 1 which was recorded in late 1982 during the Undercover sessions and features Stu on piano. In fact, there is nothing new on this release but collector may dig the fact that these outtakes are presented in a nice sound, altogether.; well as a matter of fact something new is here, the final song, the instrumental version of Ready Yourself is longer than usual, due to some musical noises and dead air at the end of the track  As for packaging this set has pretty standard covers which are in accordance with the original Steel Wheels artwork.
