REVIEW: |
This
release presents a recording from Wolfgang’s Vaults, which means that the live
stream was recorded through wave files. After having used CD wave editor to
mark the songs and cut pauses between tracks, there has been some kind of speed
correcting because all the shows Wolfgang shared appeared to be too slow. It is
not clear why Wolfgang’s Vault has the right to stream this recording, since
Bill Graham was not the 1989-90 tour promoter, having lost the rights to
Michael Cohl. However, this concert was released in audience quality at first as
Tokyo Last Stand (VGP 097), then it was streamed live as stereo soundboard by
Wolfgang’s Vault in 2013 and released on Live in Japan 1990 February 27 (No
Label) which was also remastered and as Steel Wheels Tokyo Final (DAC 142);
then in 2014 as The Last Gig Tokyo 1990 (IMP Rubidium Remaster RS900227R-D). Ruby
Tuesday and Jumping Jack Flash were released on Flashpoint, the ormer used as
soundtrack for the promo video and the latter (edited) came out on the single bearing
its name that was released in 1991, but can also be found on the 2cd set Live:
The RS 50th Anniversary in 2013.
From this
concert Harlem Shuffle came out officially on the cd single that had Sex Drives
remixes and together with Ruby Tuesday appeared on The R.S. Singles 1971-2006
in 2011. Angie was made available only on the download app in April 2013. On
bootlegs Harlem Shuffle can be found on Terrifying (VGP 231 & SODD 064-66),
Lost Live Tracks (Rattle Snake 235-6), Lost Point (GT Rec.001), Just A Shot Away
and also on vinyl on The Real Alternate Album Dirty Work (RTR 010) and finally
as part of the 14 cds box Urban Jungle Tour Europe (WLR 2148).
This is a
new remaster which has been speed corrected since originally it ran 4% slower.
Packaging
presents artwork made in 2013 for the first release of this show in soundboard
quality, although with an add on that indicates this is a 2021 remaster, even
if the track list does not match songs order, since You Can’t Always Get What
You Want is included in Disc One; adding this song to Disc Two, however, means
having to deal with some blank seconds at its end, as well as at Can’t Be Seen's
start. Apart from this, this remastering job is a nice effort that presents
the last Tokyo 90 Stones concert at its best.
