| REVIEW: |
The Stones first
concert at Anaheim came out only on 2 bootleg cds: The Burning Out (Black and
Blue 2008-9) in 1994 sporting a very distant recording with lots of pitch
fluctuations at the beginning and on Anaheim 1978 Day 1 (No Label) released in
2020 that had anyway the same source. This is a new master of that, which has
corrected the phase as well as the equalization offering a clearer open sound, with
the cuts between tracks going almost unnoticed now. Honky Tonk Women has a long
intro, due to some issues to Jagger’s microphone, but in this concert there
were other technical problems which caused Sweet Little Sixteen, Happy and
Jumping Jack Flash to be delayed a bit. On this show Nicky Hopkins joined the
band on stage again and Jagger introduced Ron Wood saying he is a permanent band
member now. Artwork has been re-done too and is now very good. But, of course,
the main thing is the sound output which is excellent, justifying the Upgrade
added to the title, well deserved.
