REVIEW:

This release presents yet again the Stones late concert in Fort Worth from 1972, which is very well-known also for having been partly released on Ladies and Gentlemen the Rolling Stones (Bitch and Rip This Joint). Here we get almost the complete 2nd show, missing just All Down The Line and Happy. Differences from the previous versions: 1) we get the full Introduction with better sounding audience recording, 2) on Brown Sugar 5 seconds have been added at the beginning, 3) at the end of Tumbling Dice, at 4.32 there are 2 more notes from Jagger and we can hear him saying: ‘Thank you very much’ which had been missing before, 4) on Midnight Rambler there is no volume decreasing midway. It seems the original recording coming from Ft.Worth Special (Boss Hawg) has been reworked with pitch and phase adjusted and no noise reduction, the end result being a more natural sound, although no hiss is noticeable.

Another thing is that on songs like You Can’t Always Get What You Want it is now possible to dig Bill Wyman’s bass more than in the past, since it is at the centre of the mix and not buried at the bottom as has always been in official recordings too. There is also the Band Introductions that features the famous ‘Happy Birthday to Jerry the barman’ line. There is also the feeling there are more in between songs dialogues here, like Jagger saying ‘It is getting warmer and warmer and warmer’ before Rip This Joint, or ‘Alright, keep me on the move’ before Street Fighting Man. Anyway, this set too is remarkable and a joy to the ears especially for those that love vintage live Stones.
