REVIEW: |
John Mayall
and his Bluesbreakers moved to Australia at the end of January 1982 and the
subject of Volume 8 of this series is the Sydney concert. All
versions were coming from the same
source but not the same transfer. One was running at the correct speed (+3,5%
compared to mine) but until Road Show it was in mono, while another had the
left channel a little different from the right (the sound was a little more
spacious).
So it
was decided to use the second version until Road Show after a speed correction
(with exception of the 15 last seconds in My Time After Awhile). For these
tracks a bit more trebles were added, the sound amplified, both channels rebalanced
and some micro-gaps deleted as well as reworked the transitions between tracks
that now start with the song.
From Road
Show the two versions were identical except for the speed so the first one was
used. For these tracks only the sound was amplified and reworked the tracks’
transitions.
Note
that My Time After Awhile is here a little more complete (15 seconds) than on
the other versions but remains incomplete. This is a weird recording consisting
of 2 separate sources, interesting is Room To Move which is a bit longer than
usual, notably some guitar improvisations would inspire Mick Taylor for his
solos on long instrumentals like Goin’ South.
