REVIEW:

This is Captain Acid remaster of the no label release that presented the Stones live in 1969 on their American Tour offering soundboard tracks and including rare ones that have in common the fact that there are no overdubs, this is a killer live album consisting of 69 tour songs! What was done is phase and level correction as well as new equalization. As previously remarked when the no label silver disc came out one of the great things about this selection is that some songs have been heavily overdubbed on Ya Ya’s live album, including Mick and Keith’s vocals, but interesting is also the rough mix of Gimme Shelter well-crafted from Altamont which was released in the famous underground album A Shot of Salvtion. It must also be noted that the version of Little Queenie here was used as a promo film in 1970, but it was probably Glyn Johns himself that opted for a wide stereo approach (check Taylor solo on Satisfaction). About Stray Cat Blues it came out by mistake in Germany in 2002 missing the first verse, thus becoming quite a rarity in this form. In addition to that, the sound of the movie is more attractive than the GYYYO one because the overall bass is much warmer. Some tracks have been merged from different dates (Honky Tonk Women from Madison Square Garden, New York 27th & 28th November 2nd Show) and Satisfaction (Madison Square Garden, New York 28th November 1st & 2nd Show) due to the fact that on the Gimme Shelter film they were not complete; the version of Carol comes from Gimme Shelter VHS, is different from the one on the DVD, also Street Fighting Man had some talking on the film version.
A great effort has been done when compiling this release in adjusting each song thoroughly. Unfortunately, Sympathy for the Devil was not complete in the movie, so instead of this live performance, was chosen Gimme Shelter from the movie. As bonus tracks we get 3 songs from Detroit that are presented in great sound, although in mono. The same can be said for Jumping Jack Flash from London’s Saville Theatre; the sound of these video tracks is greatly improved and we just have to add that the actual videos did pop up recently. Captain Acid’s treatment gave a more twist in brilliance to this set that can be now called the definitive version; too bad no new artwork has been created, as well as no label number, so this remains just a sound improvement.
