REVIEW: |
This new
release from Mayflower offers a remastered version of the Stones second night
in Boston from late November 1969. This concert has been released as That’s No
Way To Get Along (Morganfield 004), a poor quality recording, enhanced some
years later as Some Satanic Tour 1969 (DAC 015); then came Have You Heard About
Boston? (Bad Wizard STH-7) and Well You Heard About the Boston (Exile EXCD 038)
that included the missing last song which came from a different source. Then came
out Boston Gardens 1969-1972 (Palladium/Aragawa) which presented the 69 show
coupled with the 72 one. The 69 concert was the same mono recording but with no
hiss and a slightly better sounding output where Watts
drums can be heard a bit more along with Wyman work. Let the Garden Bleed (Tarantura
TCDRS-26) offered then a stereo version of the concert, although with some hiss
on one channel but nevertheless a great upgrade, said to be a master recording
of the Joe Maloney source; same for Boston 1969 2nd Show (no label)
whose pitch was corrected, You Heard About The Boston (DAC 206) that included
the first show and Best of 69 (WLR TRX-69); one track can also be found on Hell’s
Stones (Lobster Rec. 033/3) and 2 on Broadway (DAC 092). This
recording has no hiss coming out of the left channel as mentioned before and it
is stereo; at the beginning of You Gotta Move the opening chords are missing due
to a tape change, with Little Queenie that is great sounding with Stu’s piano
upfront. Packaging is excellent with great Jagger & Richards shot on front
cover, while another tasty photo of Jagger and Taylor graces the back cover
where tracks listings are. This is certainly a great release although nothing
new.
