| REVIEW: |
This latest
release from Mayflower presents the 1972 Unreleased Live Album that has been
the subject of many releases; this label already released this time ago (MF
063) as a single disc. The title was released by many labels amongst which on
vinyl The Great Lost Live Album: Philadelphia Special TSP 063 2LP, Philadelphia
Special (RSGL 72) 2 LP, Keep Your Motor Running (King Snake Rec.04 and Heavy
Sounds Rec.) and Plus In Flush Out 4 LP (Sound Beard 1SB72). On cd we can name
The Great Lost Live Album Philadelphia Special TSP 050 first release and 060
second release, Philadelphia Special (VGP 260 1st issue & 2nd
release re-mastered), Philadelphia Special (SODD 004),
How’s Your Lungs (Stones Of Fire SOF 8002),
Ft. Worth Express (Turn on the Run 06, and VGP 205), A Hard Shot To The Body
(Supersonic SS 200016), The Return of the Exiles (Halcyon), Keep Your Motor
Running (King Snake Rec.04 and VGP 243 1st
and 2nd release), The Lost Live Album
(Morph 45) The Greatest Lost 1972 Live Album (SODD 016), Plug in Flush Out (VGP
259) 4cd, American Tour 1972 (VGP 259) 5cd, as part of Touring Party 72 (Rattlesnake
048-052), Plug in Flush Out (SODD 56-58), London Mixes (OBR 305014) and Unreleased
Decca Live Album (Stonehenge STO 003). On Disc One we have tracks allegedly
taken from the master tapes of the 1972 Live Album which wasn’t released thanks
to Allen Klein that vetoed the project. However, on August 11th 1972
WMMS Radio Cleveland broadcasted 10 songs and these are the bulk of this
release that has been supplemented by other various soundboard takes. Due to
the official release of Ladies and Gentleman the Stones decided not to release
the 1972 Live Album, which was supposed to feature Stevie Wonder, contrary to
what has been done to Get Yer Ya Ya’s Out that finally came out with BB King
and Ike and Tina Turner. Meanwhile we have to rely on underground records like
this that offer a suitable replacement due to its audio high quality standard. On
Disc Two there are well known tracks coming from various venues (Ft. Worth, Montreux
and Vancouver) that are absolutely superfluous. Anyway, this is a nice release
with actually no hiss and great stereo separation; packaging is excellent, although
there are some funny mistakes, since on the back cover on Disc Two the Ft.
Worth show is claimed to have been played in June and on the accompanying OBI
the catalog number given is 248-49.
