REVIEW:

For this show there were several versions but they’re actually coming from only two different sources.

The first one (#1) can be found in particular in the 2nd part (CD n°3 and 4) of the box set Three Yardbirds In The Hall (Beano Records B-023).

The 2nd one is more common and can be found on Royal Albert Hall - ARMS Concert 21 (CR 2813-2) where the sound is brickwalled or on Prince’s Trust Rock Gala (no label), but the most interesting one comes from the rip of a vinyl made and posted by DocDondy on Dime that had to be decelerated by -1,8%.

Both recordings are almost complete.

For this project were planned 3 versions (only with lossless material):
 - Vol 02a corresponding to the first source
 - Vol 02b corresponding to the second source
 - Vol 02c is a 'Frankenstein version': the most complete recording as a merging of the 2 circulating versions.

The one reviewed here is the third one.

For this concert the line-up was: Charlie Watts on drums, Bill Wyman on bass, Eric Clapton on guitar and vocals, Jimmy Page on guitar, Jeff Beck on guitar, Steve Winwood on organ, harmonica, vocals and guitar, Kenney Jones on drums, Andy Fairweather Low on guitar and vocals, Chris Stainton on keyboards and backing vocals, Tony Hymas on keyboards, Ray Cooper on percussions, Simon Philipps on drums and Ronnie Lane on vocals on Goodbye Irene, Ian Stewart on piano on Wee Wee Baby.

Additional musicians for the Jeff Beck-set and the Jimmy Page-set: Fernando Saunders on bass and James Hooker on keyboards.

This version contains merges from the two sources (1st source on the left and 2nd source on the right). In both recordings there are some cuts so they have been combined in order to obtain the most complete recording.

The 2 recordings have been previously reworked and synchronized using small sequences of about 30 seconds. In detail:

On Disc One, Part I: Eric Clapton-set:
1. Band Introduction merged except for the first 53 seconds (The National Anthem) which are solely coming from #2
Everybody Oughta Make A Change was merged

Lay Down Sally had Andy Fairweather Low on guitar merged
Ramblin’ On My Mind/Have You Ever Loved A Woman merged

Rita Mae merged
Cocaine merged
Part II: Eric Clapton with Andy Fairweather Low on vocals:
Man Smart, Woman Smarter merged, Part III: Steve Winwood-set with Eric Clapton:

Doin’ The Best I Can merged, Road Runner (Steve Winwood on guitar) merged except for the last 15 seconds which are solely coming from #1, Slowdown Sundown (Steve Winwood on mandolin)

merged except for the last 23 seconds which are solely coming from #2
Take Me To The River merged, in the banter in source #2, I corrected a short 1’3 second gap

Gimme Some Lovin’ merged except for the last 10 seconds which are solely coming from #2

On Disc Two:

Part IV: Jeff Beck-set: Star Cycle merged, The Pump merged, Goodbye Pork Pie Hat, merged

Led Boots merged, People Get Ready had Andy Fairweather Low on vocals merged

Hi-Ho Silver Lining had (Steve Winwood on vocals) Merged, note a gap before the next set.

Part V: Jimmy Page-set:  Prelude merged except for the first 2 seconds which are solely coming from #2, Who’s To Blame had Steve Winwood on vocals merged, City Sirens had Steve Winwood on vocals, merged except for the last 39 seconds which are solely coming from #1

Stairway To Heaven featured Jeff Beck & Eric Clapton on guitar, merged except for the last 30 seconds which are solely coming from #1.The banter includes Ian Stewart announced by Eric Clapton as the manager of the Rolling Stones!!!

Part VI: Encores: all together:
Wee Wee Baby with Ian Stewart on piano merged, Layla merged except for the last 16 seconds which are solely coming from #1, Goodnight Irene had Ronnie Lane on vocals merged Outro & Band Introduction merged except for the last 43 seconds which are solely coming from #2.

Note:

Bill Wyman plays only on tracks 1-7 on Disc One and on tracks 11-13 on Disc Two.

Charlie Watts plays on all tracks on Disc One and on tracks 11-13 on Disc Two.
