| REVIEW: |
Taylor and band came back to the USA on 3 November
1989 at Deerfield, Illinois (near Prairie View) for an unusual concert. As
explained by the taper Mick Taylor fell ill mid-show and the opening act joined
the band, so they could carry on:
“This is a show Mick gets sick after
about 40 minutes of playing; he introduces the band to their surprise and
curls up on a couch and passes out. To the rescue came JB Richie (sic) who
had opened the show and was an excellent guitar player in his own rite; he
and Blondie jammed and traded licks for about 30 more minutes, then there
was the end of show. Despite Mick cutting the show short his playing was great.
Forgive me for any wrong song titles. This recording isn’t the best sonically
however this was a small room, so everything comes through; this is also
uncirculated and I am sure, other than one other person I know of, I was the
only one to tape this”. All versions of this concert were identical; here both
channels have been rebalanced (+20% for the left channel), the recording is now
de-clicked and phase adjusted, but the speed was already good. This release has
been dedicated to J.B. Ritchie (not Richie), a nice Chicago Blues Guitarist (listen
to Disc Two) who passed away in November 2021. In particular, on Disc One that
features Mick Taylor on Blues In The Morning in the first 2 minutes have been
deleted or upgraded lots of defaults; on Disc Two, the one without Mick Taylor,
the band had Blondie Chaplin on vocals and J.B. Ritchie on guitar. However, the
sound output is really great and a pleasure to listen to.
