REVIEW: |
This
release presents Mick Taylor concert from the 1990 East West Festival that was
broadcasted live on a German radio. Accompanied by Blondie Chaplin on guitar,
Wilbur Bascomb on bass, Eric Parker on drums and Max Middleton on keyboards
Taylor plays his set with great confidence and his usual fluid solos embellish
what was constructed basically as a blues set list. This recording already
surfaced on cdr years ago, but it has been fixed since there were some previous
problems, like on the 13 minutes version of Red House that suffered a cut in
the middle of the song; it has been completed here as well as Goin’ South which
was cut at the end. There is also an extra Taylor interview done before the
show and the band introduction, so the disc is almost 4 minutes longer than
before. It was also released many years ago by the Spanish MC cdr label this
re-release presents the soundboard recording of the Luisenburg Festival, the
oldest Open Air Festival in Germany that was turned into a re-unification event
from 1990. This recording is superb with extreme stereo separation (check Goin
South for example) however for some reason Blondie Chaplin incendiary solos
seem to have lesser presence than Taylor’s more melodic ones, that is probably
due to the original mix that positioned Chaplin spot as second guitar;
nevertheless this concert is very enjoyable underlining the fact that the 90s
were Taylor’s best solo decade.
