REVIEW:

This release from Mayflower addresses the sessions for It s Only Rock n Roll presenting good sounding outtakes and alternates, all well known but in excellent sound quality. The collection starts with 2 different alternate takes of If You Can t Rock Me followed by Ain t Too proud to beg alternate mix ; It s Only Rock n Roll rough mix comes after, this is in fact a different take which was used for he promo video, followed by Till The Next Goodbye that is an alternate mix. Next is Time Waits For No One longer mix which surfaced on a Japan SACD version of the album not so long ago, then we have   Luxury and Dance Little Sister alternate mixes. Short And Curlies from an acetate comes next, followed by two takes of Fingerprint File. The collection ends with well known outtakes that have been included in many bootlegs over the years, tracks like Living In The Heart Of Love and Drift Away are between the most known Stones unreleased tracks, the latter a cover of a 1973 Dobie Grey soul hit. Both Time Waits For No One and Fingerprint File are unedited versions, reputed to be better than the released ones. The sessions span from Munich and later London in early 1974. This was the first time the band was produced by its two leaders Jagger and Richards with the assistance of Keith Harwood and Andy Johns as mixing engineers and his brother Glyn too. Anyway the additional musicians were: Nicky Hopkins, Billy Preston, Ray Cooper, Ron Wood, Willie Weeks and Kenny Jones. Packaging is excellent with great cover and disc artworks.
