| REVIEW: |
This release
is just a copy of Cpt.Acid version in a better packaging, which had been
already reviewed here, so this is that review: this unreleased album was planned
as follow-up to Hot Rocks in 1972, the project was cancelled due to
disagreements between Andrew Oldham and Allen Klein about the eclectic tracks
selection, which included controversial songs such as Andrew's Blues and Pay
Your Dues (alternate version to Street Fighting Man). It was replaced with the
more conservative double album More Hot Rocks. The album was produced by Andrew
Oldham; it has been digitally remastered in 2002 from the original vinyl source
and represents a faithful reproduction of the prototype concept and recording.
This record is the precursor of the Black Box concept that was revived in 1975
and would ultimately culminate into Metamorphosis. A lot of thought was put
into retrospective recordings by ABKCO in the early to mid-Seventies. The sound
Quality is indeed excellent for these studio recordings. Some acetate surface
noise is heard at intros & outros. Upgraded clear stereo sound on many
older outtakes that have surfaced over the years, such as Pay Your Dues. This
is not based on the VGP or the Mecca release, but on a beautiful digipack that
came out 2 or 3 years before the VGP version. As usual have been done azimuth,
phase & level correction, also manually de-clicked various vinyl clicks
& pops.
