REVIEW: |
This
recording is the last one from the series and comes again from Helsinki where
the Wentus Blues Band celebrated its first 20 years of activity, but this time from
the 14 and 16 September shows, in fact this is the uncensored version because
contains tracks officially released. Unfortunately, none of the October 2006 Denmark
gigs nor the final Sweden concert in Eslov seems to have been recorded. The
line-up consisted of:
Mick Taylor on vocals and guitar,
Niko Riippa on guitar, Mikael Axelqvist on drums, Robban Hagnäs on bass, Juho
Kinaret on percussions and vocals, Kim Wikman on guitar, Pekka Gröhn on keyboards
with lots of guests, like Louisiana Red on guitar,
Kim Wilson on harmonica and Lazy Lester on vocals and harmonica on tracks from 4
to 8. On the encore Annie Lee there also play Eddie Kirkland on guitar, Clas
Yngström on guitar, Omar Dykes on guitar, Tore Berglund on sax and Barrence
Whitfield on vocals. Having said that the posted version only contained the
unofficial tracks, here some gaps between tracks have been deleted and the
transitions between them reworked; the official version of Can’t You Hear Me
Knocking runs from 0’08 through 10’09. The overall sound output is excellent
and there are some songs rarely played by Taylor like All You Need Is Love (NOT
the Beatles tune), Got Another Woman and for the grand finale Annie Lee. The 14
September tracks are however incomplete.
Now, can we
expect something new from the Wentus Blues band featuring Mick Taylor for the
40th anniversary in 2026?
