REVIEW: |
This job
was done on these 2 famous Stones Australian 73 shows, here pitch, phase &
level correction have been applied as well as a new equalization. The boots
worked on was Happy Birthday Nicky (Oh Bot 2-9039) which was the closest one to
the original recording, since all the other versions were remastered and
overcooked (that is too loud). Have never been used compressors, limiters and
noise reduction devices.
On the Sydney
concert the beginning of Brown Sugar (missing) has been patched using the Perth
show version. Moreover were added tracks 15 & 16 from an audience recording
out of Rock`n`Roll Stew (VGP 173), because these songs were missing on the soundboard
source.
Unfortunately,
it seems there was no audience recording of the Perth show, so the tracks
missing from the soundboard could not be added.
The Perth
show was released as soundboard in 1987 on a German vinyl album as Happy
Birthday Nicky (Noja 02), Rocks Off (TSP 056-2 & Noka 02), Will Keith
Richards Wake Up In Time? (one of the latest vinyl albums to come out some
years ago before the re-birth of the vinyl market) and on compact as: Live in
Perth Australia (Rockawhile 89101) with Rip This Joint mis-named Let It Rock, Perth
73 (RSCD73), The Party Down Under (RSCD 22) with tracks in incorrect order,
Exile Afternoon (no credit), Exile Afternoon Revisited (Turd On the Run 001), Happy
Birthday Nicky (Noja PPT 292), Happy Birthday Dear Nicky (Sister Morphine 038),
Happy Birthday Nicky (DAC 017), Back Strap Jacket (Tarantura TCDRS 3-1,2),
Happy Birthday Nicky (Halcyon), Perth 1973 Soundboard (no label), Rocks Off
(TSP 056) and as part of Tour 1973 (WLR 2135) 13 discs box. 4 tracks appeared
on Taxile on Main Street (Mecca TAX 1972) and Brown Sugar on Rock’n Roll Stew
(VGP 173). This recording is an improvement of the known version, unfortunately
incomplete ending with Rip This Joint that features an amazing performance by
the whole band with special mention to Bill Wyman whose playing is the
highlight of the show (check Bitch). As per the Sydney show it came out as
Australian Tour 1973 a
2 LP set, Happy Birthday Nicky coupled with Perth whose side 2 came out as A
Sticky Sydney Racecourse in lesser quality; this show turned up in 1987 as
Rocks Off by S.Pig as German lp, Vip Disked Joint by Shaved Disk and Winter
Tour 73 by Idol Mind, the last two offering a complete audience recording. VGP
released this show as Rock n Roll Stew in soundboard quality with the last two
songs as audience recording (“Jumping Jack Flash” and “Street Fighting Man”)
but with Brown Sugar fading in cut. Party Down Under had 11 tracks, while With
Kisses From Australia was a cdr release from Crazy Mama and Turn Up The Heat by
Stone Age was a later digipack release like It’s Getting Hot Up Here
(M.Diamonds 2008) which was credited as being from 24 February on the cover .
This release is
great sounding, but unfortunately suffers from bad editing, at the end of the
Sydney show there are about 3 endings of Street Fighting Man splashed together
that should have been edited out.
