REVIEW:

This project started when Imthemastah posted the video and when BlueTurns2Grey proposed to do a new collaborative work on it. The original idea was to do a complete version from the audio of this great testimony, deleting the silent and deteriorated parts and a second version posted separately with only the musical parts that will be combined with some other newly circulating outtakes that will be located in FP 139). For these sessions the p roducers were Chris Kimsey & The Glimmer Twins, the sound engineer was Christopher Marc Potter; additional musician: Matt Clifford on keyboards.

As usual all tracks have been edited, de-clicked, treated against distortion, rumble (smoothly so the music wouldn't be altered), the silent or altered parts deleted and the segments reconnected (when possible) and all cleaned up by deleting lots of noises (all ‘by hand’) in particular in the songs.

Part I: 25 April 1989 ‘Dinner at Montserrat’ starts with 1. During Dinner: lots of segments reconnected with fade ins/outs and banter over Continental Drift with Ron Wood adding some percussion with his cigarette box, then Banter ‘After Dinner’: Keith Richards, Ron Wood, Jo & Patti talking “So now we make a record or a movie? … or both?” Then comes Part II: 25 April 1989 'Warm up and first Rock And A Hard Place try-outs’ starting with Banter “Welcome to another fabulous session” followed by Malaguena through Rock And A Hard Place, Rock And A Hard Place riff and another take with Mick Jagger indications, cut abruptly. In Part III: 26 April 1989 ‘in the studio’ after the usual banter & warm-up with Charlie Watts on drums there is a Spanish flavored warm-up (Malaguena citation), then RAAHP #2 part 1 and part 3 (part 2 is missing) stopped by Keith Richards, then another Banter with Instructions by Keith Richards ‘to G’ and RAAHP #3 cut, the end missing. In Part IV: ‘check in the control room’ more Banters with Mick Jagger clapping hands over RAAHP #3 (the beginning is missing) while in Part V: ‘other checking and try-outs in the studio and the control room’, after some Banters in the studio with some RAAHP parts we get another partial RAAHP #4 (only part 1), then RAAHP #4 part 3 (part 2 is missing), they checked 4 extracts and a last short RAAHP extract, a banter with Mick Jagger with Charlie. Part VI: first Mixed Emotions ideas with Keith Richards solo and Ron Wood with an acoustic guitar; after a warm-up with Keith Richards blues improvisation we get the Mixed Emotions-riff & banter, then two bonuses: the beginning of RAAHP #3 (Part III n°13) reconnected at 1’26 with Part IV n°14 and a Blues Improvisation/Hellhound On My Trail coming from 25X5 video outtake.

Disc Two starts with Part VII: Keith Richards showing Mixed Emotions riff and idea to Mick Jagger (writing sessions for Mixed Emotions part 1) with just KR & MJ on guitar) several silent and damaged parts in between the extracts. This is work in progress 1: KR showing his ideas to MJ through 7 (KR improvisation). After that we get Part VIII: KR & MJ searching for ideas around the ME riff with KR on guitar & MJ on vocals. In Part IX they are joined by the band, there is more work in progress with first keyboard try-outs and KR showing his ideas to RW on acoustic guitar with drums and first ideas for a bridge. Then we are at the last day of these sessions, 27 April 1989, Part X: new work in progress with Mixed Emotions extracts, a short work in progress cut abruptly & banter ‘Mister compromise’; in Part XI: working on the 2nd chorus, work in progress with more elaborated version broken off by MJ on the 2nd chorus, discussions about the 2nd chorus and restart of 2nd chorus. Part XII has more reworkings in the studio, new try-outs for Mixed Emotions stopped by KR & short banters from the control room Again Part XIII is from the control room, starting with an elaborated version of Mixed Emotions #1 with a gap, a banter ‘Bonjour Ma Colombe’ and 2 short banters (in total 23 seconds) separated by a gap. Part IV: back in studio begins with rehearsing Mixed Emotion’, a flaw patched at 1.37, another banter & warm-up ‘You’re not the only one’, more elaborated music, approximative lyrics of Mixed Emotions #2 a very long version and final studio banters, separated by a gap.

Part XV: checking the result in the control room, starts with a banter over the previous recorded long version, then another banter "I fucked up a little bit", "I think we could repair that" and the last banters and laughs. Finally, we get Part XVI: MJ vocal overdubs (very partial) with a short MJ voice overdub extract #1, extract #2 and some short vocal overdub extract #3; then another bonus: Mixed Emotions #1: 2 segments reconnected at 0’57 seconds. As with other releases of this kind Disc Two is much more enjoyable featuring music excerpts, while Disc One has lots of dialogues and is intended for completists only.
